Bonjour,
This is our first post to you this year. It was very nice to see all of you in the pictures. We are going to start learning french soon so we will be able to send you some letters.
Thank you very much for our parcel. We all really enjoyed the biscuits, they were delicious! Did you get our parcel?
The children would like you to tell us a little bit more about the brown bear. Why is he famous? Are there many brown bear stories?
Merci Beaucoup!
I hope you are feeling better Marie.

THANKS FOR SINGING "FRERE JACQUES" TO US
HELLO / BONJOUR YEAR 1
What a good idea, singing "Frère Jacques"
for us : you did it very very well, thank you.
Of course we can teach you small rhymes or easy action songs. It is a good idea.
Let us think about it !
We are surprised because you are all wearing the same nice white shirt. In France we do not wear uniforms, even when we are older.
We can dress as we like, depending on the weather and it must be practical for the gym or when riding a bike.
Do you like wearing uniforms ? Is it the same in all the schools ?
In France it is now compulsory, learning a foreign language in the primary school, at 6.
It is mainly English, but it can be also German, Spanish or Italian, depending on the location of the town.
In our town it is special, we are beginning English at the pre-primary school (from 5 to 6), so next year.
But we are happy beginning this year, learning our colors. We have tried to play Mr Crocodile, but it was the end of the school year and we missed a little time. We enjoyed it and our teacher helped us when we did not remember a colour. We also made a VERY BIG pace (like a giant).
Each month, we make a birthday cake for each child born during the month, and we sing ''Joyeux anniversaire", "Happy birthday"
"Zum Geburtstag" (German) and Buon Compleano".(Italian) Sorry, our teacher does not know the song in other languages !
In September, we will try and send you the video.
Thank you again for the video. It was so nice of you

Year 1 song
Bonjour,
Thank you very much for the photos and video. We LOVED them! It is wonderful to see how a school in a different country is different to ours.
We were so impressed with your children that we decided to record our own song in french. In England, we don't start learning another language until we are 8 years old, so I have taught the children a little french. We hope it is okay? The song is 'Frere Jacques'.
Not all of the class are here, but here is their names,

HELLO YEAR 1
GOOD MORNING (BONJOUR)
Thank you for sending us pictures of your school.
It is beautiful.
In our school we have two different playgrounds where we can play ; the first one is for the youngest pupils (3 years old) and the second one for the oldest. The 3 MS classes use both of them alternatively. We can ride bicycles in the two of them. There is also a hall between the two playgrounds.
We can use a big gym structure in it.
During breaks we like going on the slide, getting on and off the train and playing ''chat perché" (perched cat) :
One is the cat and has to touch another one on the arm ; if so, he or she becomes the cat and has to find someone else.
But when the other players are on a step, they are safe. So the cat has to be quick.
We can also play with the white lines on the concrete.
But during breaks we cannot play with a ball.
We are clapping the syllables of our names.
Our names are :
Tris/tan TRISTAN
Ma/non MANON
Au/gus/tin AUGUSTIN
Ti/mé/o TIMEO
Thé/andre THEANDRE
Ma/ry/lou MARYLOU
Clé/o/phie CLEOPHIE
Jo/han JOHAN
Sa/ran SARAN
Ca/mille CAMILLE
Je/mi/ma JEMIMA
Lou/ane LOUANE
We know how to write our names in capital letters.
We only use capital letters for writing.
We will learn next year how to write in cursive writing.
Now we are learning to sing "Head and shoulders" in the big hall.
We like singing.
On Thursdays, the three MS classes join together in a small hall and learn new songs.
We sing our songs to our parents twice a year : in December
and in June.
Here we are singing a very easy song :
"Les petits poissons"
Les petits poissons dans l'eau
nagent, nagent, nagent nagent nagent
Les petits poissons dans l'eau
nagent aussi bien que les gros.
which can be translated in English as :
''Little fish"
Little fish in the water
can swim, swim, swim, swim, swim
Little fish in the water
can swim as well as big ones.
Here we are singing in our classroom.

Bonjour!
Thank you very much for the photos. We loved looking at them.
Our school is a primary school. Children start here at 4 years old and leave
when they are 11 years old. Each year
has 1 class in it with 30 children in each class. There are 270 children in the school.
Year 1 wanted to send you some pictures of our school.
This is the front of our school.
And this is our school gates.
We walk in this way every morning.
This is our school field.
We love playing football here at lunch times.
This is a picture of our classroom door. We are learning about superheroes at the
moment and are working very hard to write our own stories.
We have been learning how to say hello and ask how are you in
French and we have been learning the song Frere Jacques. We will record it for you and send it to you
next week.
Year 1 would like to know, what games do you play at school?
Au revoir, Year 1
