Year 6 are off and running!

Well, it's only the first week back and the children are already working hard.  We have started our new topic, 'natural disasters'.  The children have enjoyed researching the disasters that have already happened in the world over the past few months and have been busy adding them to our class map.  Please help them at home to keep up to date with the latest news from around the world and make sure they keep adding to our map.  Please ask your children to tell you about the new story 'Floodland' that we have started reading.   It's a really exciting book!  Just to remind you, PE will be on Wednesday afternoon.

Bonjour,

We have been very busy lately working on our pirate topic.  We have been to visit the Mary Rose in portsmouth and seen the big ships in the port.

This is the Mary Rose today.  It was King Henry the eighths ship but it sank in portsmouth.

This is a picture of King Henry the eighth.

We had a lovely time and even learnt about cannons and how to fire one.

We looked at Admiral Nelson's ship - the victory.  It was very big!

In assembly this week, we have been learning about May day and the May Queen.  In assembly, we crowned a may queen and then had a maypole dance where 4 children danced around a teacher holding ribbons.  It was a lot of fun.

We hope you like our pictures.  This week we are learning about plants and are going to a garden centre to plant some flowers.  We will tell you about this soon.

We have also been busy learning a song in french about the days of the week.  We will sing it for you soon.

Speak to you soon,

Bonjour

Bonjour,

This is our first post to you this year.  It was very nice to see all of you in the pictures.  We are going to start learning french soon so we will be able to send you some letters.

Thank you very much for our parcel.  We all really enjoyed the biscuits, they were delicious!  Did you get our parcel?

The children would like you to tell us a little bit more about the brown bear.  Why is he famous?  Are there many brown bear stories?

Merci Beaucoup!

I hope you are feeling better Marie.

THANKS FOR SINGING "FRERE JACQUES" TO US

          HELLO / BONJOUR  YEAR 1

What a good idea, singing "Frère Jacques"
for us : you did it very very well, thank you.

Of course we can teach you small rhymes or easy action songs. It is a good idea.

Let us think about it !

We are surprised because you are all wearing the same nice white shirt. In France we do not wear uniforms, even when we are older.
We can dress as we like, depending on the weather and it must be practical for the gym or when riding a bike.
Do you like wearing uniforms ? Is it the same in all the schools ?

In France it is now compulsory, learning a foreign language in the primary school, at 6.
It is mainly English, but it can be also German, Spanish or Italian, depending on the location of the town.
In our town it is special, we are beginning English at the pre-primary school (from 5 to 6), so next year.
But we are happy beginning this year, learning our colors. We have tried to play Mr Crocodile, but it was the end of the school year and we missed a little time. We enjoyed it and our teacher helped us when we did not remember a colour. We also made a VERY BIG pace (like a giant).

Each month, we make a birthday cake for each child born during the month, and we sing ''Joyeux anniversaire", "Happy birthday"
"Zum Geburtstag" (German) and Buon Compleano".(Italian) Sorry, our teacher does not know the song in other languages !

In September, we will try and send you the video.

Thank you again for the video. It was so nice of you

Year 1 song

Bonjour,

Thank you very much for the photos and video.  We LOVED them!  It is wonderful to see how a school in a different country is different to ours.

We were so impressed with your children that we decided to record our own song in french.  In England, we don't start learning another language until we are 8 years old, so I have taught the children a little french.  We hope it is okay?  The song is 'Frere Jacques'.

Not all of the class are here, but here is their names,

starting at the top left: Kayden, Ruby, Theo, Mia, Reggie, Frank, Rihan, Isobelle
Middle left: Jayden, Aimee, Aleisha, DJ, Seth, Lucas, Zahra, Amber, Same
Bottom left: Abram, Janice, Bailey, Victoria, Ini, Saiya

The children wanted to know if your wear a school uniform and if you could sing us any other easy songs in french so we could try and learn those.

Enjoy our song!
